VBS in Review

VBS 2013 380c

Over 100 volunteers came together this summer at Sunlight to serve over 400 children from our community. For many kids and volunteers alike, VBS was a highlight of their year. Watch our wrap-up video and you can see why : )

How to Make a Movie Screen

Today I got started on some VBS props. Made this movie screen in just half an hour with help from Kyle.

For my Pinterest friends, here’s how to make this screen for under $20:

4×8 Foam Core board from Home Depot

1 Roll White Contact Paper

1 Colored Plastic Table Cloth

Foamies from the dollar store

Step 1: When heading to Home Depot, keep and eye out for these.

Step 2 & 3

Cut your tablecloth in half lengthwise and staple each half to top of the board. I bunched them a bit to look like curtains on a rod.

Embellish with your choice of foamies. Simply staple them on. I found these glitter crowns at the dollar store. curtain

We use a projector, computer speakers, and hook up a laptop or DVD player to show the videos.

Last year we just used 2 white tablecloths taped to the wall for the screen and 3 red tablecloths for curtains and valance. We covered the rest of the room in black tablecloth. We bought a roll, cut to the length of the wall and pinned it into the ceiling tiles with T-Pins. It stayed up all week! Looking forward to making new movie memories this summer with our new movie screen.

Announcing our 2013 VBS Leadership Team

VBS kicks off Monday June 17th and runs through Friday June 21st from 9am to 12 noon each day. Registration is now open for children who are entering Kindergarten through 7th grade. (Register HERE)

Kids in K – 4th grade are grouped together and rotate through timed stations in mixed-age crews. Our 5th and 6th Grade Preteens have their own outlandish fun in separate rotations.

Kingdom Rock – Where Kids Stand Strong for God is beginning to take shape. It takes months of planning and over 100 volunteers to make VBS magic each summer. So at this time I would like to take a moment to announce our fabulous 2013 VBS Station Leaders. Drum roll please…

Registration Leader – Heather Cohen

Chadder’s Theater – Pete and Barbara West

Tournament Games – Dave Bures

Imagination Station – Chris Bures

Epic Bible Adventures – Pastor Scott Vander Ploeg

Worship Leader – Tara Flint

Preteen Leader – Teri Fairley

Snacks in the King’s Kitchen – Fernanda Sturgell

Nursery/Preschool Class Teacher – Libna Sierra

Please keep our leaders and families in prayer as they begin their journey to bring to life another outstanding week of outreach for our community.

Our station leaders have begun to recruit much needed team members and we also are praying to enlist 32 crew leaders this year. Sunlight wants to keep kids safe here on our church grounds and crew leaders are essential to the safety of our children. Also, many kids and crew leaders look forward to reuniting each summer. Good times : )

We welcome both youth (entering 8th grade and up) and adults of all ages to be on the team.
